Rook #1

Training time 15min

Day 1

The visualization training with a rook helps you visualize squares that a rook controls, and enhances the visualization of a chessboard.

The first step is to visualize a square in the four squares below.

The point is to visualize not only the red square but also the other three squares.

1.1

Look at "Boards for training." Then, using the figure below as a reference, look at a1, a2, a3, and a4 while counting 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Look at the squares one by one in the 4 x 1 grid.

Next, look at b1, b2, b3, and b4 while counting 1, 2, 3, and 4. Please do that until h1, h2, h3, and h4.

1.2

Look at the squares one by one from a1 to h1 while counting from 1 to 8. Look at not only the red square but also the other three squares.

1.3

After 1.2, look at the eight squares from a1 to h1 instantly. Look at not only the red squares but also the other squares.

1.4

Look at the squares one by one from a2 to h2 while counting from 1 to 8. Look at not only the red square but also the other three squares.

1.5

After 1.4,  look at the eight squares from a2 to h2 instantly. Look at not only the red squares but also the other squares.

1.6

Please do that on the 3rd and 4th rank in the same way.

1.7

From the 5th rank to the 8th rank, please do the same thing as 1.1 through 1.6.

Day 2

2.1

Now close your eyes and visualize what you have done in steps 1.1 through 1.7.
However, this time, create a shape as if you are holding a rook, and then visualize squares while moving your hand like moving a rook. Moving your hand helps your visualization.

Also, instead of visualizing the eight squares from a1 to h1 at the same time, visualize the 1st rank instantly like moving Ra1 to h1 with your hand.

Day 3

Please do what you did in 2.1 without moving your hand.

Day 4

Repeat Day 3.

Day 5

5.1

Please do the same as in 1.1.

Look at a1, b1, c1, and d1 while counting 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Next, look at a2, b2, c2, and d2 while counting 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Please do that until a8, b8, c8, and d8.

5.2

Look at the squares one by one from a1 to a8  while counting from 1 to 8. Look at not only the red square but also the other three squares.

5.3

After 5.2, look at the eight squares from a1 to h8 instantly. Look at not only the red squares but also the other squares.

5.4

Look at the squares one by one from b1 to b8 while counting from 1 to 8. Look at not only the red square but also the other three squares.

5.5

After 5.4, look at the eight squares from b1 to b8 instantly. Look at not only the red squares but also the other squares.

Please do that on the c and d-files in the same way.

5.6

From the e-file to the h-file, please do the same thing as 5.1 through 5.5.

5.7

Now close your eyes and visualize what you have done in steps 5.1 through 5.6.
However, this time, create a shape as if you are holding a rook, and then visualize squares while moving your hand like moving a rook. Moving your hand helps your visualization.

Also, instead of visualizing the eight squares from a1 to a8 at the same time, visualize the a-file instantly like moving Ra1 to a8 with your hand.

Day 6

Please do what you did in 5.7 without moving your hand.

Day 7

Repeat Day 6.
