This is quite sudden, but can you visualize the following red and yellow squares in your head?
It's great if you can do it. I think you already have a high visualization of the board. If you can not visualize them well, there is no problem at all. The red and yellow squares should be difficult to visualize than the four squares in the center or the squares on the edge of the board.

Overall, it looks like this. It may look strange at first, but as you get used to it, this image gives you the feeling that the squares are connected and enhances the overall image of the board.
